The week after Thanksgiving, starting with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, traditionally kicks off the holiday sales season and the pivotal “make or break “ period for retailers. As inflation weighs on consumer demand, what should we expect for the 2022 holiday shopping season? Many customers are curbing spending, with holiday sales expected to rise just 4% to 6%, compared to 2021’s 15.1% increase, according to Deloitte. In addition, consumers’ pandemic-era shopping preferences have increasingly shifted towards experiences like dining and travel. At the same time, retailers are feeling the squeeze from unprecedented margin pressure due to increased labor wages, fuel prices, and inventory carry costs. Which retailers are well positioned for success as consumers increasingly shop across digital and physical touchpoints? Who is bound to end up on the list of likely laggards this holiday season?
WAMM is honored to have one of the most widely quoted and leading observers of the retail sector, Dana Telsey, to walk us through the ever-evolving environment.
