Big Tech is back! After a particularly challenging 2022 for the technology sector, we saw a rally in tech in the first quarter of 2023 with mega-cap tech stocks (e.g., Apple, Microsoft) outperforming the rest of the group. As long-duration growth assets, tech stocks are most vulnerable to the whims of the Fed in its ongoing attempts to manage historically high inflation rates. Add to that an uncertain outlook for IT spending and macroeconomic concerns, making it seem like now may not be the best time to step into the broader tech sector. Still, the company fundamentals remain robust rendering the possibility of a prolonged sell-off ala the dot-com bubble less likely. As earnings estimates come down, where are the buying opportunities within tech for long-term, patient investors?
We are fortunate to have a distinguished panel of seasoned industry experts to walk us through the tech investing outlook for 2023 and beyond: John K. Freeman is an Equity Analyst at Ravenswood Partners. Daniel Ives is a Managing Director and Senior Equity Research Analyst at Wedbush Securities. Daniel Pilling is a Senior Research Analyst at Sands Capital.
