Various forecasts and assessments for the $21 trillion commercial real estate (CRE) market have ranged from a price decline rivaling that of the Great Financial Crisis to challenges being manageable despite the higher interest rate environment and tighter credit standards. Performance has varied for each of the principal sectors, but there seems to be a general consensus that the office sector and regional malls are most at risk. Are there other sectors that might experience more pressure down the line? Are the recent headlines worse than reality with the repeat of 2008’s liquidity crisis highly unlikely?

We are fortunate to have highly respected industry experts to walk us through the sector outlook for 2023 and beyond. Floris van Dijkum is Managing Director and Senior Research Analyst at Compass Point Research and Trading and has over 30 years of real estate investment, research, and banking experience. Ryan Riel has been working in CRE with EagleBank for more than 20 years and currently oversees EagleBank’s almost $5 billion CRE Lending portfolio and its 50+ employees. Vaibhav Vish serves as Co-Portfolio Manager for the Financial Opportunity Long/Short Fund and Market Neutral Strategy at FJ Capital Management with a focus on insurance, as well as specialty finance and traditional real estate.

Please note that the Chatham House Rule applies – neither the comments of the speakers nor those of other participants are for attribution.

Please register below by 6:00 PM ET on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. The event is $0 for WAMM members, $55 for non-members, and $25 for student non-members. Please try to register early, as the space is limited!

Walking directions to the Mason Square Campus:
Take the Orange line or Silver line. Exit at the Virginia Square-GMU station. When you exit the station via the escalator, you will be facing 9th Street with North Monroe Street to your left. Walk away from 9th Street along North Monroe Street to Fairfax Drive (there is a 7-Eleven on the opposite side of the street). Turn right on Fairfax Drive. Walk approximately 0.2 miles. Van Metre Hall will be on your left. The Art Gallery and Auditorium are located on the 1st floor of Van Metre Hall in room 134.
