Looking back at 2020, it was a great year for exchange traded funds (ETFs), with global inflows surpassing $750 billion for the year and global assets under management growing by over 30%. Approximately 300 new exchange traded products debuted last year, a new all-time high. At the same time, more than 250 ETFs shuttered, more than double the rate seen in 2019. Nonetheless, the momentum and tailwinds continue to be strong for ETFs globally as economies continue to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To guide us through the ever-evolving ETF landscape and the pivotal trends investors should watch in the second half of 2021, we are fortunate to have a truly star-studded panel of Lara Crigger, Mariana Fariña Bush, CFA, Todd Rosenbluth, and Chris Versace. Ms. Crigger, a 15-year veteran of the ETF industry, serves as the Managing Editor of ETF Trends and ETF Database, responsible for leading editorial strategy and direction for both platforms. Prior to joining ETF Trends, Lara served as the Director of Content for ETF Action, as well as a senior staff writer at ETF.com. Ms. Fariña Bush is a Managing Director for Global Manager Research, a division of the Wells Fargo Investment Institute. Mariana is the head of the closed-end fund (CEF) and exchange-traded tracking product (ETP) research team at Wells Fargo and has worked for over 30 years in the financial services industry. Mr. Rosenbluth is a Senior Director of ETF and Mutual Fund Research at CFRA where he leads the firm’s holdings-based research efforts. Todd publishes regular thought leadership content on equity and fixed income products, supports the quantitative fund models, and interacts with clients. Mr. Versace is the Chief Investment Officer and thematic strategist at Tematica Research, which publishes the Monday Morning Kickoff, the long only Tematica Investing newsletter and the trading service Tematica Pro, which uses a combination of long-short investing and options. At the start of his career, Chris spent 13 years in the equity research departments of Salomon Brothers, Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ), and Friedman Billings Ramsey (FBR).
