Eric Blankenstein has spent the last decade dealing with legal and regulatory issues in the financial services industry. Most recently he was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Ginnie Mae, acting as the senior agency official in the last months of the prior administration. Before that he was the Policy Associate Director of Supervision, Enforcement, and Fair Lending at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. In that role he oversaw all of the CFPB's supervision and enforcement activity, and was a key advisor on all other matters at the agency. He also served in the Office of the United States Trade Representative, where he represented the United States in disputes at the World Trade Organization.

Prior to his government service, he was an attorney in private practice, focusing on complex commercial litigation, especially litigation related to financial transactions and mortgage backed securities.
