Market participants, investors and regulators have a focused attention on the financial system stability and pandemic-ready banking and related industries as policies are rolled out in response to the COVID-19 crisis and economic fallout. Today's economic and market environment has required uniquely aggressive fiscal and monetary policy responses. Daily spikes in volatility, weak economic data, elevated unemployment and persistently low interest rates (and even possible negative rates) reflect this challenging environment. Investors in particular are trying to understand today’s conditions as they affect the banking and financial services industry. We have an expert panel to guide us on these macro topics and outlook for bank valuations and underlying drivers - loan quality and reserving (including the new CECL reserve accounting), profitability, dividends, loan growth, capital levels, liquidity and returns.
WAMM is fortunate to have an expert panel to help us navigate investing in banks and financial services. Bert Ely, President of Ely & Co, will moderate the expert panel. He is a respected observer and consultant to the financial industry. Leading financial media outlets seek his opinions where he is often quoted and interviewed. Gerard Cassidy, Head of U.S. Bank Equity Research at RBC, is an innovator in bank analytics, Institutional Investor-ranked analyst, and has been recognized for his decade–long stock picking record. Ethan Heisler, Head of Bank Treasury Strategy, Kroll Bond Rating Agency, follows bank fixed-income markets, publishes the Bank Treasury Newsletter, and is in frequent contact with bank treasurers and CFOs. Steve Stein, co-founder and CEO of FSI Group, is co-portfolio manager of FSI’s flagship long-short financial hedge fund, and has served as a director of banks and financial service companies.
